FLY4WARD, Babah Fly, Mike Wird, DJ Fast4Ward, Ill Se7en, Diles and Luke Troutman – Fire in the Dark

On a quick drop date tour thru New Mexico, FLY4WIRD, LUKE TROUTMAN and ILL SE7EN headed down I-25 to Albuquerque on a Thursday night on a 6 hour drive that ended up taking 10 hours. Arriving at Diles’ studio around midnight the crews immediately started to build. Babah Fly started banging on the drums, Luke Troutman grabbed the guitar(s) and DJ Fast4Ward wailed away on the keys, meanwhile Ill Se7en and Mike Wird grabbed their pens and pads(along with Babah Fly after he got his fill of the drums) and started writing. Diles’ Central Root Studios was the perfect accommodation for these traveling musicians. Running ProTools thru the MPC made the track jump off. Diles laid down the beat while DJ Fast4Ward played the crucial key lines while translating the occasional bass line whispered in his ear by Babah Fly and Mike Wird. By 4am the beat had its basic frame, verses were ready and Babah Fly wrote a hook for DJ Fast4Ward to sing. It was time to make the magic happen and the magic lasted well into the morning into the next day. The result is the track you hear, an Iconic Denver/Albuquerque crew connection.
The intro rap/monologue is set off by Luke Troutman(we didn’t even know he rapped) as he addresses issues of narcissism that plague our lovely country.
After playing the Launch Pad in Albuquerque the crew continued on to Taos to visit the Earthships and play at the Earthship builders’ bar down the street.
